Food  Traditions  : Does America have one or nah

            Do modern Americans have strong food traditions ? I believe that Americans do not have strong food traditions. A tradition is something that is passed on from one generation to the next. I think that Americans do not have one specific food tradition because there are so many traditions already contained in our society today. Also people don't always stick to one food tradition they often eat multiple types of foods like someone can eat Chinese food one day and then eat Italian food the next day.

  Multiple traditions in America

               

     It s hard to say the specific food tradition that America has, this is because is because of the multiple traditions in America. These traditions consists of Chinese, Mexican, Italian and more . This all started in the late 1800's when an influx of immigrants came in to the United States looking for better opportunities  that were not available in there own countries. Over time these people settled down and brought there culture and traditions with them. I know this because where I am from (Nigeria) we eat foods such as yellow rice , beans and plantains, when my family came to America they brought there culture with them.Though I am from Nigeria since i live in America I am able to try new things from different cultures. What this means is that America does not have a specific food tradition.

On the flip side 

 

      People might  say that America does have traditional foods like McDonald or burger king. Though these companies are made by or in America they serve foods from different cultures and countries. For example the origins of the french fry have been traced back to Belgium, where historians claim potatoes were being fried in the late-1600s. Also the burger came from a German cook ,Otto Kuasw, who created a very popular sailors' sandwich made of a fillet of beef patty fried in butter, served with a fried egg, between two toasted buns in 1891, at a post in Hamburg, Germany. This shows that these foods ncan not be called American since they are from different countries.

           

          Conclusion  

       In conclusion, Modern Americans do have strong food traditions. In Nigerian culture, there is a traditional cuisines \that they eat. There are some dishes that I eat that is part of my culture and I eat some dishes that are not part of my culture. It's typical for an American to eat things inside and out side our cultures.
